Wearable Art
Millee has been a resident of Historic Anacostia for the last 14 years and has been designing
wearable art for most of her life. She is inspired by indigenous, hand-worked textiles from many cultures. She also
hand-paint, bead, and appliqué to create unique, one of a kind pieces. The December
Collection will consist of comfortable, interesting, pieces designed to provoke
thought and promote conversation.
Charita Powell of Amazulu and Chaya Designs

has been in business for 27 years and has been designing jewelry and home
lighting décor for 20 years. Charita was
initially inspired to do business and create jewelry by the brothers on the
street in the 70’s and 80’s vending their hand-made jewelry. She was later inspired by the Green Movement
and her exposure to other cultures through her travels. For 1 ½- 2 months every year Charita travels
to the forests of Indonesia to forage for raw materials to be used in her
lighting fixtures designs; many consisting of coconut shell, teak and bamboo. The pieces are hand-made by a family business based in Indonesia
